Johann Georg Haßelbacher

Born 19 April 1766 in Diespeck Germany

Johann Georg is Peter's 5G Grandfather.  He is the first of my descendants to be born in Diespeck.  His father Georg was born in Stübach, and his Grandfather Paulus appears to be the first Hasselbacher to actually live in Diespeck.   The abstract of this record can be viewed here.  The record of his death and burial can be seen here.  He married Anna Maria Wöhr (Wehr) in 1788.  Her records can be accessed here.

Comments
• There are words I cannot read or translate, They are indicates with an asterisk. I also use a question mark to indicate a word I am not certain of.

• The father's name is clearly spelled Haßelbacher here at the birth of Johann Georg. This is early on in the history of the Diespeck Hasselbachers.

• The abbreviation and numeral 2 at the beginning of the text may indicate that this is the second child. I will try to pay attention to other births in those years to confirm. Johann Georg was indeed the second child of this marriage. This space appears also to be where an illegitimate birth was denoted.

• Note again than no matter how tempting to think that Johann Georg may have been named after his father, the name came from his godfather. Joh Georg Holtzberger may have been his grandfather. Holtzberger is a common name in Diespeck but the family was not apparently one of the Exulanten families. The Hasselbachers married other Holtzbergers over the next two centuries.

• Johann Georg Holtzberger came from Mittlesteinach. There is a Mittelsteinach just the next village up the road from Münchsteinach. Recall that Johann Georg was only a little younger than the first Peter Hasselbacher of Münchsteinach. The Hasselbachers of those places would have known each other and their neighbors very well.

• This is one of the oldest Baptism Books in which the pages are now enclosed in a plastic material. It looks like the original pages were velum as opposed to paper!
