Below is a detail from the 1920 Census in Essex County, New Jersey. It lists the Inmates of the Essex County Hospital for the Insane of Overbrook in Cedar Grove Township on Jan 3, 1920.
Catherine Beaver is entered as a 68 year old widow from Ireland.
Comments, Conclusions, and Speculation:
I discovered this record 2 months ago. It is the most recent and last document I have found. It may have been that I had seen it before. I pored over dozens of Kate Burkes and Beavers in census and other on-line documents. It may have been that I did not recognize what I was looking at. The secret to finding things, I have learned, is to know what you are looking for. You have to be willing to see what is in front of you. It may have been that I did not expect nor want to find Kate in such a place. Frankly, I think that because I was armed with the certain knowledge that Kate was alive in 1920, and now knowing the name (but not the type) of the hospital in which she died, this page was ready to seize my attention– and it did.
I have learned a little more about the hospital and will discuss it on another page.
