Caroline Bayerl/ Baierl of Gundelsdorf and Affing

Following the Family Register pages that I show elsewhere were several pages like this one whose title translates as something like 'Replys to Questions." Basically, they just list additional family members. I do not think by chance alone that these two entries are next to each other. I will deal with Andreas of House #33 1/2 later.  House #32 is the record for Alois Rath, husband to Carolina (Baÿerl) v(on) Gundelsdorf. The third and forth columns list the parents and siblings (Eltern und Geshwister) of Alois and Carolina. The parents of Alois are Paulus and Magdaline and he has no (kine) siblings listed. (I believe the second columns tells us that the aeltern (old) parents are in haus (in house).  Recall that Carolina was born in 1806, so these pages must have been prepared sometime after 1820.

The fourth column is rich with Carolina's family names.  Her parents are Xaver and Apollonia.  Her siblings at this time (several years into the 1800s) include: Leonhard nach Gundelsdorf; Anton of Gundelsdorf; Viktoria ?Inazia who is a widow in Jann**dorf; and Christiana.  As luck would have it, the very first records I saw in the microfilm from Gudelsdorf allowed me to confirm a connection.  The following image is a collage of three different entries in a book recording a house-by-house census of communicants.

The census book was prepared between 1794 and 1805. (There were 356 Comunicantes and 62 Non-comunicantes in Gundelsdorf.) By the time of the last survey (farthest to the right) in house #49 lived Xaver Baierl and his wife Apolonia and their kinder (children) Victoria and Leonhard.  This is before the birth of Carolina.  There are other people living in the houses who I cannot place.  They are divided ito men and women.  The first column gives the maiden name and birthplace (Sainbach?) of Apolonia. Victoria is there, the name of Georg Michael is crossed out, and there is a *eocht? Joseph Baierl of unknown relation.  The middle column lists only Victoria and Michael.  This is certainly enough to make a firm connection.

Note how Xaver and Apolonia's last names are spelled. Xaver's has an 'i' and Apolonia seems to have a 'ÿ"!  I wil have to look on other pages for examples of 'y's in this priests hand.

There were two other Baierl houses in this record: Joseph in HN 13, and Leopold in HN 49.  I suspect we will be able to find out who they are:  there are lots of records from Gundelsdorf!
